The Estiu al Carrer program kicks off this week with the opening of the Bibliopiscina, the show 'Diminuts' and the first workshop on ball de coques
The Fraga City Council unveiled the program for Estiu al Carrer (Summer in the Streets) at a press conference this Tuesday. This cultural series will fill the city's public spaces throughout the summer . Under the slogan " Experience culture outdoors ," this year's program features 21 multidisciplinary events taking place both in the afternoons and evenings , guaranteeing accessible leisure options for everyone.
During the presentation, the Councillor for Culture, María José Barrafón, highlighted the council's effort to design a proposal that "seeks a more vibrant and open city , maintaining the programming of different children's shows, traditional festivals such as those of ASVA, San Juan, El Castillo and Santa Ana, and the traditional coque dance that we are recovering with such affection."
As a new feature, Barrafón explained, “this year, given the conditions of the sky in August, the traditional meteor shower in Cardiel will be transformed into a session to discover the solar eclipse of August 12.” Registration for this activity will open this Wednesday through the website reservas.fraga.org
For her part, the Culture Department technician, Carolina Gonzalo, outlined the program, noting that the first major narrative pillar of this year is based on the Bibliopiscina (Pool Library ), a service that began operating this past Monday and will remain active until August 21.
The section dedicated to performing and street arts, which will take place on alternate Thursdays over the next few weeks, begins this Thursday with the children's and family parade "Diminuts" by the company La Fam. Starting at 20:00 p.m., the parade will travel from the Xiquets Nursery School to the Juan Carlos I Gardens. This will be followed by a selection of evening circus, comedy, and clown performances by groups such as the Per Ser Company with their spectacular Acrobatic Duo in Plaza de España, the Jean Philippe Kikolas Company with " Sin Remite" in Plaza San Salvador, the A Saco Producciones group with their production "Ridi Pagliaccio" in Plaza Hort de l'Hospital, and the Almozandia Company, which will present "A Ton Town West" in the area around the Juan Carlos I Gardens.
Local identity and traditions also feature prominently in Fraga's summer cultural program . The traditional "ball de coques" (a type of flatbread dance) will be showcased through workshops held at the senior citizens' center, serving as a prelude to the grand gathering and parade taking place on Paseo Barrón at the end of July to celebrate the Santa Ana festival. The first "ball de coques" workshop will be held this coming Saturday at 17:00 PM.
On the other hand, the traditional music and folk roots of the Rondalla de la Peña Fragatina will be in charge of bringing the festive atmosphere to the different neighborhoods, with performances scheduled in Miralsot, on July 19, and in Litera, on September 19, to celebrate their festivals.
