CEIBO Y ENCINA, songs straddling Argentina and Iberia, is the proposal of the musician from Bajo Cinca, Jorge Senar.
Ceibo y Encina is the second musical work by Jorge Senar, a resident of Belver de Cinca. It's a book-CD with 12 songs inspired by traditional Argentine folk music, especially from the Northwest: chacareras, zambas, vidalas, and bailecitos. The lyrics, however, are written in Iberian Spanish and address themes very close to the author and the Spanish public. This blend of Argentine music and Iberian lyrics explains the album's title.
The book (125 pages) contains, in addition to everything related to the album, the author's Travel Diaries through Jujuy, Salta and Santiago del Estero, a story accompanied by some fifty photographs in which the landscapes and traditional culture of these provinces emerge and the most interesting episodes of his musical search through Argentine lands are narrated.
This work bears a strong resemblance to the film *La Estrella Azul* (2024), directed by Javier Macipe, which tells the story of rockabilly musician Mauricio Aznar's personal and musical transformation after becoming fascinated by chacareras in the 90s. In fact, Jorge Senar developed a taste for this music through the records of Almagato, a group founded by Mauricio Aznar upon his return from Argentina. In February 2018, filmmaker Macipe and musician Senar were traveling in Santiago del Estero at the same time, though without crossing paths, following the same trails and visiting emblematic sites of the region's folklore.
Ceibo y Encina was recorded at La Casita de Amankay, with the crucial collaboration of several members of Amankay and Almagato, who provided the songs with the necessary sonic textures. Other musicians who also participated include Fran Gazol, Laura Sorribas, Nicolás Mora, Manuel Klainer, Gloria Geberovich, Bea Almar, and Diego Meléndez.
