A University of Pennsylvania study links poor dental health to chronic back pain
Dentists often emphasize the importance of taking care of our dental health because it can affect other parts of our body . New research has revealed that people who lose teeth due to poor oral hygiene are more likely to suffer from chronic pain in the lower back and buttocks.
One possible explanation for this connection is that periodontitis , a gum disease, can trigger an immune response that causes inflammation in other parts of the body, thus contributing to chronic pain.
In the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, Clínica Dental Fraga is the only center in our area, and one of the few known at the regional level, that has a physiotherapist among the professionals on its staff.
The Fraga clinic is a benchmark among professionals in the sector and they continue to demonstrate this, staying at the forefront of current dental techniques to offer the best and most complete service to patients throughout the territory.
The results of the study, which links poor dental health and chronic back pain, “…suggest a clinically significant relationship between chronic pain and tooth loss,” according to study co-author Dr. Kevin Sheng-Kai Ma of the University of Pennsylvania.
