On February 28th and March 1st, 2026, the Aragonese Canoeing Federation organized these two competitions in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region.
Mequinenza experienced a weekend packed with high-level canoeing, thanks to the regional federation, which held two new competitions in the Bajo Cinca region. On Saturday, February 28, the Ribarroja reservoir hosted the 1st Aragon Dragon Boat Championship over a distance of 2.000 meters, the first scoring event of the Regional League for this discipline. The following day, Sunday, March 1, the reservoir hosted the 2026 Aragon Winter Flatwater Championship , with 59 boats finishing out of the 60 registered. These two days confirm the Bajo Cinca town of Mequinenza as one of the leading locations for canoeing in Aragon.
First Aragon Dragon Boat Championship. Saturday, February 28th
The competition was held in a time trial-pursuit format, with the crews completing two laps of the circuit to reach the regulation 2.000 meters. The excellent sailing conditions allowed the Aragonese teams to gauge their form at the start of the season.
In the Dragon category, the title of Champion of Aragon went to Centro Natación Helios , while in the Dragona category, the championship was won by CD Monkayak Hiberus . With this opening event, the regional Dragon Boat calendar kicks off a season that promises to be competitive and with strong participation from Aragonese clubs in a discipline that is clearly expanding nationally.
Regional Winter Championship. Sunday, March 1st
Sunday's events unfolded under a completely clear sky, with sunshine, almost spring-like temperatures, and no wind, offering ideal conditions for both athletes and spectators. The perfectly marked 1.000, 3.000, and 5.000-meter courses were the scene of several thrilling sprint finishes that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The open format competition, accessible to clubs from other regions, brought together paddlers of all categories, from beginners to veterans and paracanoeists.
In the team standings, Centro Natación Helios emerged victorious with 500 points, thanks to a strong presence in virtually every race and numerous wins in the youth, under-23, senior, and master categories. Club Deportivo Monkayak Hiberus had an outstanding championship with 417 points, reaping a large number of medals in the development and veteran categories, while Club Náutico de Zaragoza completed the podium with 48 points, confirming the excellent state of canoeing in Zaragoza.
The event also featured the participation of clubs from other autonomous communities such as Cantabria Multisport, Sicoris Club or Piragüisme Castelldefels, which helped to raise the competitive level of the day.
The positive atmosphere among paddlers, coaches, and clubs was a defining feature of the weekend, with exemplary camaraderie between Aragonese organizations and the invited clubs from other regions. With these two events, the Aragonese Canoeing Federation reaffirms its commitment to continued growth in membership, organizational quality, and support for athletes and clubs, aiming to position Aragonese canoeing in an increasingly prominent place on the national stage.
