With the arrival of summer also come music festivals; in our region and nearby there are several interesting options that you can't miss.
The first event is just 20 minutes from our region, with the Magnific Fest 2024 ( Lleida, June 14, 15 and 16)
The earliest festival in the area kicks off in Lleida, at the "Les Firetes" Fairgrounds, and will fill the weekend with indie and pop music from artists such as Vetusta Morla, Iván Ferreiro , La Oreja de Van Gogh, OBK, Shinova , Siloé, and Elefantes. On Sunday the 16th, "Magnifics en Familia" will take place with a performance by El Pot Petit and the Black Music Big Bang.
We continue with SoNna Huesca – From June 29 to September 14
The " Sounds in Nature " Festival is an initiative of the Huesca Provincial Council that invites people to enjoy music and theater in unique outdoor spaces. More than 40% of the venues, a total of 26, are new to the Huesca Provincial Council's festival.
The fifth edition will tour the ten districts of Alto Aragón during the summer and will discover the village of Cardiel, in Fraga , the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Ganza in Calasanz, the Centenera Mill (Graus), the Laus Wineries and Finca Valonga (Belver) , as examples of the humanized agricultural landscape; the Sanctuary of San Urbez de Nocito, the Fountain of Memories of Fraella (Grañén) or the Milano Real-Cometa Roja Museum of Binaced, which join this year other spaces already visited by the contest in its four previous editions.
The first "discovery" of the 2024 program is the village of Cardiel , which will host the Argentinian Soema Montenegro on July 7th . Uninhabited by the mid-20th century, this village within the municipality of Fraga witnessed the filming of Spaghetti Westerns , a genre that was shot in Spain and Italy during the 1960s and 70s, resulting in over 500 films. Around thirty of those productions filmed exterior scenes in this area of Aragon, in places like Chalamera, Alcolea de Cinca, and Ballobar, but especially in the village of Cardiel. There, between 1965 and 1972, the Balcázar brothers, along with director and screenwriter F. Iquino, filmed over two dozen movies.
And on Saturday, August 31st , the Matthieu Saglio Quartet, the quartet of the Frenchman based in Valencia, will bring classical music to the wine country at Finca Valonga (Belver de Cinca) , in homage to the humanized landscape of the Alto Aragón vineyards, that evocative agriculture that stretches south of the Sierra de Guara and into other scattered locations in the Huesca region. An agricultural and biodiversity legacy cultivated over decades paints a mosaic of vineyards, walnut trees, olive groves, almond orchards, and cereal crops, with bodies of water scattered throughout its extensive holdings on the right bank of the Cinca River. Managed since 1931 by three generations of the same family, the estate already had its own vineyards and winery dating back to the early 19th century. In the 1980s, the vineyards were replanted and all the facilities were renovated. The winery is strategically located in the heart of the vineyard, which covers an area of 60 hectares.
We cannot forget one of the main events in our country, the Monegros Desert Festival ( Fraga, July 27 ).
Monegros 2024Europe's most radical and extreme festival is preparing for its 31st anniversary with an edition they're announcing as "more creative, with more spaces, wilder and more extreme than ever." Featuring 12 creative stages and over 150 artists performing for 22 hours.
Hip hop and techno predominate in a lineup that will be spread across eleven desert stages, with performances by Method Man and Redman, Brutalismus 3000, Hard GZ, Vitalic, L'Entourloop, Kiza and Sofia Gabanna.
Aragon will be represented by the Huesca DJ Andrés Campo who closed the festival in 2023 with the surprise collaboration of Kase O and Pushmann from Tarazona, who will test his strength against Cazenave.
Also scheduled are the Italian duo 999999999 , the Dutch pair Abstract Division, Adam Beyer, the Italian Adiel, the Bolognese Alignment, the veteran Paco Osuna and Andy C.
Highlights include British artist Ben Sims and Californian Truncate with his project Assailants . Also featured are Ben Klock , the female power of Cera Khin, Indira Paganotto, Fatima Haji, Charlotte de Witte, and Sara Landry , and sets by Seth Troxler and Chaos in the CBD.

Towards the end of summer, the Festival of Castles also takes place again in Fraga ( August 30th and September 1st ).
The Festival aims to promote and showcase the work of emerging artists from the national scene with a diverse cultural program and will arrive in Fraga on the last weekend of August at Lo Castell.
The opening on Friday, August 30th, kicks off with a dance performance by Alpaca Dance Collective and “Lo que ven” (What They See), scheduled for 8:30 pm. This performance explores how it's possible to dance without seeing, to feel with the skin, to love with the ears, and to embrace with the sense of smell. Following this, Carmen Boza , a Spanish singer-songwriter who began her career uploading videos to YouTube and represents a new wave of indie-pop-rock music, will perform.
On Saturday the 31st, the Festival includes a morning event at the Montcada Palace at 11:00 AM with the SGAE Foundation Conference and "The Transformative Role of Music in the Region," before returning to Lo Castell at 8:30 PM where Laura López and Pablo Pérez present their dance performance " Bailaban las perolas" (The Pots Were Dancing) . The evening promises to be exciting with the "Sancho & Swing" concert by David Sancho , the Teruel native who participated in "Destino Eurovisión" in 2011 and has appeared in several television series. He will offer a swing repertoire with classics and pop covers. To close out the day, Bárbara Gartland DJ presents "Contemporary Eclecticism + Tropical Poison ," a set by the Calatayud-born artist and creative Aurora Verón , which can be enjoyed from midnight.
The Festival concludes on Sunday, September 1st at 20pm with the premiere of “Moving Mountains” by Alberto Velasco , a multidisciplinary artist, writer, actor… who proposes a piece of folk dance through queer identity and the avant-garde.
It's a bit further away, geographically speaking, but we don't want to forget about Pirineos Sur ( Lanuza, from July 4th to 28th )
The International Festival of Cultures celebrates its 31st edition this year, boasting a lineup of renowned artists such as Ricky Martin, Mon Laferte, Loreena McKennitt, La Plazuela, Vetusta Morla, Lila Downs, and Silvia Pérez Cruz . The festival will also feature a tribute to Camarón, "La Leyenda del Tiempo," as well as performances by Melendi, Israel Fernández, El Drogas, Estrella Morente, Chucho Valdés & Irakere 50, Tarque & La Asociación del Riff, Lin Cortés, Yadam, and Goxua'n Salsa.
Pirineos Sur 2024 will kick off on Thursday, July 4th with a night dedicated to flamenco and throughout the month of July will fill this beautiful town in Alto Gállego with music from diverse origins and styles.
