The town council has given out baby vouchers to those born last year
“A simple but very important act,” is how Débora Bravo, First Deputy Mayor of Mequinenza, described the distribution of baby vouchers to the five girls and four boys born in 2023, who were accompanied by their parents and closest relatives. This initiative aims to encourage residents to settle in the area and “make things easier” for locals.
In that regard, Bravo announced that work is underway to enable the "La Ruella" Municipal Nursery School to receive children from four months of age, although without giving precise dates since the procedure may be lengthened if any adaptation to the current facilities needs to be carried out.
This traditional and heartwarming welcoming ceremony for new residents of Mequinenza, held in the Council Chamber, has reached its 18th year and “has seen its financial support increase to the current 600 euros per birth,” noted Montse Gimeno, Councilor for Citizenship and Social Services. This “small contribution” has benefited nearly 270 babies and their families to date.
In addition to the symbolic check presentation, the Procter & Gamble (P&G) plant in Mequinenza gave the children a selection of products. These included wipes "made with plastic-free raw materials," stated Ana Nieves, Head of Human Resources, who also emphasized the company's commitment to the community.
In order to receive these checks, the parents must be registered in Mequinenza, without interruption, for the 2 years prior to the birth or adoption, and after the birth or adoption the entire family unit must be registered at the same address in the town and be up to date with their tax obligations.
