At Diario del Bajo Cinca we suggest some ideas to enjoy these days and celebrate the arrival of summer in our region
We kicked off summer in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region with lots of music, the first San Juan celebrations and the start of the summer festivals.
Fraga, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd
End-of-year concert of the Youth Workshops
On Friday at 22 p.m. in the Juan Carlos I Gardens, the Youth Workshops season concludes with a concert by Solvibra and Lapiaz.
Solvibra is an indie pop-rock band from Bajo Cinca, formed by Aitor (Ballobar) and Ariadna (Fraga), both singers, guitarists, and songwriters. They have composed a 10-song album that they plan to release this June.
Lapiaz is a young singer-songwriter who has chosen the local language to express himself and create his musical themes, which can be heard on Spotify.
Recovery of the Ball de Coques
With the support of the Fraga City Council, the folklore researcher Jordi Florensa and the technician Gustavo Vera, this popular dance that has been kept alive on stage thanks to the interest of former members of the Rondalla Peña Fragatina, could return to its popular roots.
Among the planned activities, free classes have been scheduled in Fraga, taught by the Somerondón University Association of Aragonese Folklore. The first class takes place this Saturday, June 22nd, and subsequent classes will be held on July 6th and 20th. Those interested can register at balldecoques.com
XII City of Fraga Chess Open
The Castle hosts this Saturday from 10 a.m. the celebration of the chess tournament organized by the Fraga Chess Club, with the collaboration of the Fraga City Council and the Bajo/Baix Cinca Region.
It is endowed with €1.180 in prizes and 15 trophies in its 2024 edition and will feature the presence of several grandmasters, international masters and FIDE masters (one of the official titles awarded by the International Chess Federation).
Saint John's Day Celebrations
The most magical night of the year celebrates the summer solstice with rituals, music, and much more, with events taking place throughout the weekend in various locations. If you plan well, you won't miss a thing.
Ontiñena, Friday 21
The town is celebrating San Juan early at its newly opened municipal swimming pool and is offering a party tonight starting at 20 pm with cocktail tasting and music.
Belver de Cinca, Saturday 22
The Housewives Association and the Belver Town Council are organizing the traditional San Juan Festival on Saturday night, with cake and mistela (a sweet wine) and a raffle for a dinner for two. The event begins at 10:30 p.m. in Plaza de Santa Ana. Beforehand, at 7:00 p.m. at the swimming pools, there will be a storytelling session with Sandra Araguás. The Huesca-based researcher, writer, and storyteller will offer a narrative session suitable for all ages. Following the storytelling, the prizes for the 2024 San Jorge drawing contest will be awarded.
Torrente de Cinca, Sunday 23
As they explain on the municipal Instagram: «To Torrent, to the magical night of Sant Joan and from the early days, we want to turn our faces to the Fonteta and here we will be younger and bons tot l'any. At half-time, we will go down the Acéquia street at 12 o'clock, when the night is most magical, we will lock our faces and we will not look at the aspill until it is still daylight...
The festivities begin with a "Alforja" dinner at 21.30:00 p.m., followed by the distribution of "coca de San Juan" (a traditional San Juan cake), and then, at the magic hour, midnight, to celebrate San Juan at the Fonteta.

III Summer Fest in Mequinenza, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd
With free admission, the festival kicks off at 11 p.m. in the Truck Parking area next to the Capri venue. It opens on Friday the 21st with performances by The Aguateques, from Vilanova i la Geltrú, playing pop and disco ranging from the 70s to current urban music. The opening night lineup also includes La Buena Onda with Jadey, a street band whose feel-good videos filmed on Paseo de la Independencia in Zaragoza have gone viral with millions of views, and DJ Rialto, the king of the afternoon and nightlife scene in the Aragonese capital, with a late-night set.
On Saturday the 22nd, the Zaragoza independent music scene arrives with Ziro, who will present songs from their debut album, "Falso techo," in a dynamic and energetic live performance that blends elements of rock, pop, and folk. The evening continues with Copacabana Indie-Pop, another local act, offering a comprehensive tribute to Spanish indie pop, featuring songs by Arde Bogotá, Viva Suecia, Leiva, La La Love You, Izal, Lori Meyers, and Vetusta Morla. DJ Andrew will close out the festival.
