The City Council of the capital of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region recognizes the National Police on its 200th anniversary, and also awards the Matrícula de Honor prizes and the medal and crosses for dedication to the Local Police for 20 and 25 years of service.
The Fraga City Council awarded the city's coat of arms to the National Police at the Honors and Distinctions ceremony held Tuesday afternoon at the Castle. This gesture recognizes the work and dedication of the force on its 200th anniversary. During the same ceremony, the Honor Roll awards for the 2022/23 academic year were also presented, along with medals and crosses for dedication to three members of the Local Police for 20 and 25 years of service.
The event was attended by the municipal corporation, representatives of different security forces and the sub-delegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, who received the shield of Fraga together with the commissioner of the National Police, Luis Fernando Ascaso.
In his speech, the mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún, thanked the Local Police – whose decorated members were David Buil, Iván Torres, and Francisco Villacampa – for “the essential work they do to preserve the fundamental values that govern our society,” and wished the National Police “at least another two hundred years, because their work is essential for our country.”
“To all of them, the Local Police and the National Police, as well as the rest of the security forces present here, I want to express my gratitude for the essential work they do, dedicating their lives to helping and protecting people,” said the mayor.
Finally, Gramún reminded everyone that “as I always say in my speeches, people are the center of everything, people are the most important thing, and people move the world.” Therefore, he concluded, “that you sacrifice your lives for others, for someone you probably don't even know, means that my message is true, and your profession proves it.”
Honors Matrimonial Awards
Regarding the Honors Awards, the Education Department will grant five scholarships. In total, the City Council will award €6.000, at a rate of €1.200 for each student who completed the 2022-23 academic year with honors in their Baccalaureate and Advanced Vocational Training studies.
In this part, Gramún highlighted that “today the awards are being given for the great work that five young women -Esther Villagrasa, Ángela Puig, Laura Royes, Carla Canales and Iris Foixench- carried out last year”, adding that the award winners splendidly represent “the tenacity and hard-working character of our women in skirts”.
