SoNna Huesca 2024 will once again reveal natural spaces largely unknown to the general public, such as the village of Cardiel in Fraga.
The cinematic history of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region is extensive and, surely, little known to the general public. The Sounds in Nature Festival, organized by the Huesca Provincial Council, will reveal, for example, to locals and visitors alike, the village of Cardiel, in Fraga, where some thirty Spaghetti Westerns were filmed in the 1960s.
This spot is a popular gathering place in our region on summer nights, for activities like the Perseid meteor shower viewing, organized by the town hall's tourism office. However, it's likely a little-known location in the province and the rest of Aragon.
Thanks to the SonNa 2024 program , several corners of our province are being showcased to the general public. The village of Cardiel, which will host the Argentinian Soema Montenegro on July 7th , is one of this year's new additions, along with the Valonga Estate in Belver de Cinca. Uninhabited in the mid-20th century, this village within the municipality of Fraga witnessed the filming of Spaghetti Westerns , a genre that was shot in Spain and Italy during the 1960s and 70s, resulting in over 500 films. Around thirty of those productions filmed exterior scenes in this area of Aragon, in places like Chalamera, Alcolea de Cinca, and Ballobar, but especially in the village of Cardiel. There, between 1965 and 1972, the Balcázar brothers, along with director and screenwriter F. Iquino, filmed over two dozen movies.
Xoel López and Malú will be two of the standout names in this edition, with a total of 27 performances in venues across the ten districts of Alto Aragón , taking place between June 29 and September 14.
