The team from Bajo/Baix Cinca couldn't secure third place, but they finished fourth with a prize of €1.000 and the satisfaction of having played a great tournament.
We already have a third-place finish in this first edition of the Diputación Cup. Monzón beat Ontiñena 2-1 on Thursday, a team that tried hard throughout the 90 minutes but couldn't secure the victory. Goals from Oukkati and later from Valencia were enough for the home side to claim the win.
The match began with Monzón dominating possession. As the first few minutes progressed, Mariani's men were pressing forward. In fact, it didn't take long for the home side to score the first goal, courtesy of Ouakkati, who finished off a great move from the Monzón half in the 13th minute (1-0).
Monzón, far from protecting their lead, continued their onslaught. Just three minutes in, another excellent team move left Ouakkati unmarked, receiving a perfect cutback and scoring a goal that was later disallowed for offside. Beyond these chances, the game slowed down, and apart from a Monzón attack in which Ouakkati headed wide, little else happened. After the first 45 minutes, both teams headed to the locker rooms to regroup and rest.
The second half began in a way no one expected. Many spectators hadn't even sat down at the Isidro Calderón stadium when Andrés Roda, the captain of Ontiñena, headed in the equalizer from a well-placed corner kick by the visiting team (1-1).
The match became intense. Nobody wanted to give anything away, and from a corner, very similar to the one that led to Ontiñena's goal, came the goal that put Monzón ahead, thanks to a well-placed header from Carlos Valencia in the 63rd minute, giving the home side the advantage (2-1).
Ontiñena tried with more heart than head, but failed to create any real danger for their rivals. Ultimately, there wasn't enough time, and Monzón secured third place in this inaugural edition of the Diputación Cup.
With that, the penultimate match of the Diputación Cup concludes. This Friday, starting at 8:00 p.m., El Alcoraz will host the tournament final between SD Huesca 'B' and SD Gurrea.
It's worth remembering that the first-place winner will receive, in addition to the trophy, €4.000 in cash, second place €3.000, third place €2.000, and fourth place €1.000. Furthermore, to get everyone warmed up, the Huesca Provincial Council has organized a pre-match event outside El Alcoraz stadium for all fans, featuring music from the Sonido 54 truck and various raffles.
