Aarón Obiol took home the trophy for best player of the tournament in a competition in which the greens finished top of the group stage that determined the matches, eliminated CSK 5.0 in the semifinals (2-1) and won the final against Torrente Fútbol Sala (3-0)
Mequinenza Futsal has won the Regional Cup trophy in a competition held at the Candasnos Sports Pavilion. Ten teams participated: the top nine finishers in the Regional League plus the host team. Aarón Obiol won the award for best player, and Carles Larroya, from Torrente Futsal, the runner-up team, was chosen as best goalkeeper.
The Greens dominated the tournament from start to finish. They finished first in the preliminary round that determined the matchups and even had the luxury of pacing themselves in the final matches before facing the final phase with qualification already secured.
In the semi-finals they faced CSK 5.0 in a match where Mequinenza ceded control to their opponent but took the lead thanks to a direct free kick from Julián Gómez in the 10th minute. Four minutes later Alex Novials equalized after a mistake by Dani Borbón, the green goalkeeper, and David Llop, from a penalty for handball, secured the victory one minute before the end of regulation time in a match that proved more difficult to resolve than initially expected.
In the final against Torrente Fútbol Sala, who had eliminated Barbería VAV in the semifinals (3-2), things proved easier thanks, in part, to an early goal from Pau Soler in the 2nd minute after a throw-in, which set them on the path to victory. Ten minutes later, Soler added a second with a backheel, giving Mequinenza some breathing room. Adding to this was the solid performance of goalkeeper Dani Borbón, who redeemed himself after his semifinal error. The final was sealed in the 17th minute with a double penalty, awarded for accumulated fouls, which David Llop converted to make it 3-0.
The downside to the victory came in the form of injuries, those of Eric Fernández and Julián Gómez, at a difficult time for the team that is immersed in the fight for the league title of the season.
