The Telecable Gijón women's roller hockey team will face Club Patín Fraga on Saturday, February 24th at 19:30 pm at the Sotet Pavilion
The Asturian team made history last weekend by winning the Intercontinental Cup in San Juan, Argentina. After the preliminary round, they faced Generali Palau de Plegamans in the final. The match, which ended 3-3 after extra time, went to penalties, with Telecable Gijón emerging victorious 5-4.
With this title, the Gijón team has won every competition held in a single season this past year: the Intercontinental Cup, the Spanish Super Cup, the OK Liga, the Queen's Cup, and the European Cup. Their coach and former player, Natasha Lee, described the team's achievement as "incredible."
On Saturday, February 24th, the Asturian team visits the Sotet Pavilion in Fraga, undoubtedly still reeling from a recent emotional performance, but with a highly competitive squad boasting dangerous players like Sara Roces and Sara Lolo. Fraga cannot afford to let its guard down if it wants to remain competitive at the highest level. The home team currently sits in fourth place with 36 points, while Telecable Gijón is third with 37. A victory for Fraga would propel them to third place, but a defeat would drop them further from the top spots.
Club Patín Fraga's next match will be on March 2nd, against Generali Palau de Plegamans on their home rink. Generali Palau are the Intercontinental Cup runners-up and currently lead the league with 43 points. Then, on March 10th, Esneca Fraga will travel to Portugal for their final Champions League group stage match against Benfica. Undoubtedly, the team from the Bajo/Baix Cinca region faces a hectic few weeks, which they must approach with complete focus to avoid falling behind in any competition. The team boasts excellent players who have demonstrated their competitive spirit and high level of play throughout the season.
