The Bajo/Baix Cinca Health Council deplores the deplorable state of healthcare in the region. Following Wednesday's meeting, the council's president and councilor for Health, Ángel Cabrera, lamented that "years go by, governments of different political persuasions come and go, and our situation remains dire," as stated in a press release sent to the media.
Firstly, the councilor criticized that "in primary care there is a lack of staff, absences and vacations are not covered and many doctors end up requesting a transfer due to the accumulation of tasks from absent colleagues."
Regarding Specialist Care, “the inadequate staffing at Barbastro Hospital has a direct impact on the lack of specialists at the Fraga Regional Center. Ophthalmology, traumatology, cardiology, and other disciplines have unsustainable waiting lists, completely incompatible with the idea of a dignified and efficient public healthcare system.”
Therefore, the Bajo/Baix Cinca Health Council is demanding a shock plan from the Aragonese Government's Department of Health, "an urgent action to alleviate this endemic situation of precariousness that we suffer and we claim our right to have a public health system that guarantees quality and local healthcare."
