Yesterday, according to organizers, some 5.000 people staged border blockades between Spain and France.
The agricultural sector continues its protests over working conditions, just days before the European elections. Yesterday, Monday, June 3, eight border crossing blockades were planned between Spain and France. Hundreds of transport vehicles were stranded, unable to cross from one country to the other. This protest will end today, Tuesday the 4th, at 10:8 a.m., after 24 hours of demonstrations by farmworkers.
The AEGA (Aragón Es Ganadería y Agricultura) association was one of the organizers, along with fourteen other associations from across Spain and French farmers. The organizers criticized the complete absence of union leaders, despite the fact that many young people from these organizations attended in a personal capacity. " The union leaders have probably been in their positions for so long, and are more concerned with maintaining their own interests, that they are turning a deaf ear to what is happening on our roads and in our land. This is undoubtedly yet another symptom of the urgent need to change our country's agricultural policy," AEGA stated in a press release.
Among the representatives from the province of Huesca are several farmers and ranchers from Bajo/Baix Cinca who wanted to be present at this event, which they have described as historic.
