The catalogue, a collaborative effort between the Government of Aragon and the Museum of Zaragoza, brings to a close the exhibition of the same name that took place between October and January in the regional capital.
As a prelude to the Day of the Faldeta (traditional skirt), celebrated on April 21st, the Fraga City Council, in collaboration with the Government of Aragon and the Museum of Zaragoza, has recently published the book " Clothing with Memory: Fraga and its Women ." This catalogue serves as the final piece to the exhibition of the same name, held at the Casa Ansotana of the Museum of Zaragoza between October and January. This publication, now available at the Moncada Palace, showcases the ethnological collection of dresses and accessories featured in the exhibition, highlighting the efforts of the people of Fraga to preserve the customs and traditions of Fraga, as well as its traditional dress—an attire that the women of Fraga continued to wear well into the 21st century.
Clothing with a Memory: Fraga and its Women, consisted of a selection of original garments that traced the different life stages of women from Fraga, from birth to death, including key moments in the lives of these women in traditional skirts, such as weddings and mourning. “The exhibition very accurately represented all the stages of life of the women of Fraga in bygone days, with the dresses they wore for each occasion and their corresponding explanations, so that everyone who visited the exhibition learned many details and unique aspects of these jewels of our cultural heritage,” commented the Councilor for Culture, María José Barrafón.
In addition to clothing, accessories, and other objects essential to daily life in past centuries, the exhibition included explanations of each and every item on display. Now, the book compiles all this information, as well as the translation from the Fraga dialect to Spanish of the names of all the pieces that made up the exhibition.
“In this part, we must acknowledge the work done by Manolita Labrador, Rosita Hernández, and Mary Zapater, because thanks to the material and information they provided, it has been possible to create both the exhibition and the book,” Barrafón said, adding that “their work is invaluable, since all this legacy left to us by our beloved women will be perfectly explained even as the years go by.”

The catalog "Clothing with Memory: Fraga and its Women" is traveling to Europe thanks to the Rondalla de Peña Fragatina, which will represent Spain this Holy Week at the 48th Paasfeesten Leuven Festival in Leuven, Belgium. This week, the Fraga City Council presented seven copies of the publication to the folk group, who will distribute them to the other groups participating in the Belgian competition.
“The Rondalla de Peña Fragatina will be carrying the name of Fraga throughout Europe during these days, and we thought that this publication is a good gift to promote our city through our traditions and customs,” said the Councilor for Culture, who wished the members of the Rondalla “a good trip, much success and enjoyment of the experience.”
