Between September 15 and October 15, driving motor vehicles off marked roads will be prohibited.
The mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún, has once again issued a decree to protect the deer population during the rutting season . The Fraga Town Council, through this announcement, prohibits the use of motor vehicles off designated roads between September 15th and October 15th.
On the other hand, the statement also establishes that only authorized lighting elements may be used in vehicles , and that flashlights, spotlights and/or elements that dazzle animals are prohibited.
Gramún pointed out that “the rutting season is one of the most unique natural spectacles we can enjoy in our environment, but we must always do so with respect and avoid any behavior that could disturb the animals .” In this regard, he reminded everyone that “it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve our natural heritage and ensure that the rutting season can take place normally.”
This measure complies with Law 42/2007, of December 13, on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, which in its article 54, section 5, provides for the prohibition of “intentionally killing, damaging, disturbing or harassing wild animals , whatever the method used or the phase of their biological cycle”.
Furthermore, the Aragon Hunting Law 1/2015, in its article 41, establishes that “the use of mirrors, headlights, lanterns and other artificial light sources” is prohibited , and is considered a serious offense according to the provisions of article 82, section 18, of said Law.
