For the third consecutive year, the Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH) is launching its Local Police Plan, aimed at improving the equipment of these security forces in our province. Thanks to this project, with a budget of €80.000, the various departments will implement significant improvements in communications and protective equipment for officers in 2026.
The Provincial Council launched this Plan in 2024 and, since then, has enabled the ten municipalities that have this service to invest €230.000 in improving equipment, including local police facilities and vehicles, replacing damaged or obsolete equipment, and purchasing new items. All of this is aimed at contributing to a better service.
Thanks to this Plan, each municipality receives a fixed amount of 2.000 euros plus a variable amount depending on the population and the staff available to this service.
This year, 2026, the Local Police Plan of the Provincial Council will allow, for example, the purchase of a new motorcycle in Sabiñánigo; the improvement of communications with the implementation of the Aragon Emergency Network (TETRA) in Monzón and Binéfar; or the increase of defense equipment with personal cameras, bulletproof vests or tactical flashlights.
As Sergio Serra, Deputy Mayor of Binéfar and head of the local police, pointed out, “with this plan from the Provincial Council, we will be adding four new TETRA systems to the Binéfar Local Police: three for vehicles and one portable unit. With these, the force will now have eight communication systems of this type. This allows us to improve something fundamental to public safety: operational communication. Officers will be able to coordinate better with each other and with other emergency services, act more quickly, and thus respond more effectively to any incident, resulting in a safer and more efficient service for all residents.”
Currently, ten towns in the province of Huesca have a local police service: Huesca, Monzón, Barbastro, Fraga, Jaca, Binéfar, Sabiñánigo, Graus, Benasque, and Sallent de Gállego. Together, they have 306 officers.
It is worth remembering that, in addition to this Plan, the Provincial Council promoted in May 2025 a framework agreement for police collaboration that facilitates the mobility of officers between towns on an occasional basis and for circumstances of seasonal or extraordinary need.
