The Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH) launches the Provincial Plan for Municipal Cooperation to promote cultural, sporting and library activities in 2026
The Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH) is launching the Provincial Municipal Partnership Plan to promote cultural, sporting, and library activities in 2026. Thanks to this plan, 200 municipalities in the Alto Aragón region will be able to organize events, workshops, and performances that bring culture to rural areas. The plan also includes an investment of €106.000 for library activities and reading promotion, and €24.000 for sporting events.
The municipalities of the province will be able to carry out a total of 272 projects under the Provincial Council of Huesca's Municipal Cooperation Plan for the promotion of cultural, sporting, and library activities. The requests submitted by the municipalities reflect a diverse and localized program, designed to strengthen cultural life in rural areas throughout the year.
As Carlos Sampériz, the Provincial Council of Huesca's Deputy for Culture and Sport, points out, “For the Provincial Council of Huesca, culture is a benchmark, a driving force, and a catalyst for social advancement. That is why, year after year, we invest, propose, protect, and continue working to promote culture throughout the province of Huesca.”
The cultural funding line accounts for the majority of the investment and encompasses a wide variety of proposals: musical performances, festivals of jota and Aragonese folklore, theater, circus, magic, summer cinema, exhibitions, murals, and workshops on crafts, ceramics, painting, photography, heritage, and robotics. Among the applications are programs such as Jaca Comedia, Ciudad Viva: Art, Technology, and Music in Binéfar, Micro-Montaña in Benasque, the Cineclub and Menudo Teatro in Sabiñánigo, as well as numerous activities tailored to the calendar and identity of each town.
In the area of libraries, the requests focus on promoting reading and revitalizing these public spaces. Local councils have requested storytelling sessions, reading clubs, writing workshops, illustration, lettering, and bookbinding classes, reading promotion activities, and publishing projects linked to local magazines and newspapers. This initiative allows libraries to continue functioning as cultural, educational, and intergenerational meeting points.
Sports activities complete the plan with mountain races, mountain biking, multi-sport days, sports camps, chess, a classroom on bikes and routes linked to the territory.
Overall, the Plan reinforces the Provincial Council's commitment to a program that is accessible and capable of bringing shows, reading and artistic creation to the rural areas of Alto Aragón.
