A man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly stealing a van and 28 lambs from a livestock farm in Ontiñena and being subsequently intercepted by the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) in the province of Lleida. The police action occurred after several drivers reported a vehicle driving erratically on the AP-2 motorway.
According to details provided by the Catalan regional police, the theft took place at a farm located in the municipality of Ontiñena . Apparently, the suspect gained access to the premises and stole several animals, as well as a van, which he later used to flee the scene with the lambs inside.
Hours later, several tips led the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) to the vehicle, which was traveling erratically towards Lleida. The operation finally took place in the Les Borges Blanques area, where officers arrested the driver and confirmed that the 28 stolen lambs were indeed in the back of the van.
Initial reports also suggest that the detainee was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the intervention, although the ongoing investigation will determine the exact circumstances of the events and the possible crimes he is accused of.
After the animals and the stolen vehicle were recovered, both the van and the lambs were returned to their owners . The investigation remains open to fully clarify what happened and reconstruct how the theft occurred at the livestock farm in Bajo/Baix Cinca.
