The Civil Guard seized cocaine, marijuana, hashish, ecstasy pills, cash, precision scales and equipment for preparing substances
The Civil Guard has arrested a 24-year-old man in Mequinenza, a local resident and Spanish national, as the suspected perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug trafficking and another for disobeying a lawful order . The operation took place last weekend as part of the preventative measures established for the International Descent of the Cinca River.
According to the Civil Guard, the incident occurred when officers from the Citizen Security Unit were carrying out surveillance and prevention duties in the town. During their patrol, the officers observed a group of people near a warehouse behaving suspiciously , and proceeded to identify them.
The operation began next to a warehouse
During the operation, one of the young men entered the building, appearing nervous and ignoring the officers' instructions. The Civil Guard officers followed him inside and found evidence consistent with the possible presence of narcotics.
Following that initial inspection, officers conducted a search of the premises, where they found various quantities of drugs and material allegedly related to their preparation and distribution.
Substances and materials seized
The Civil Guard seized approximately 10 grams of cocaine packaged for distribution , 5 grams of marijuana, 4,3 grams of hashish, and 19 ecstasy pills. In addition, officers found €192 in cash, in bills of varying denominations.
In the same area, authorities also found two precision scales and various tools allegedly used for the preparation and distribution of narcotics. The operation also resulted in the seizure of several prohibited weapons, including a set of brass knuckles.
A device linked to a mass event
The arrest took place within the security operation deployed for the International Descent of the Cinca , an event that each year concentrates sporting activity, public and movement of people in the area of Mequinenza.
Following the intervention, the young man was arrested as the suspected perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug trafficking and disobedience. The investigation is now in the hands of the appropriate judicial authorities.
