Our contributor Eric Villagrasa reviews the films shot in Fraga from the 60s to today
The Bajo/Baix Cinca region has a long history with the world of cinema. In the 60s and 70s, towns like Fraga, Candasnos, and Chalamera served as locations for Spaghetti Westerns, primarily produced by the Balcazar brothers. The village of Cardiel was a frequent location in these films, standing in for places in the United States or Mexico.
Bigas Luna's 'Jamón, Jamón' marked the first on-screen collaboration between Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, and was partly filmed at the Bar del Ventorrillo in the municipality of Fraga. More recently, multi-award-winning films such as 'Las Niñas' and 'Alcarrás' have also used the Bajo/Baix Cinca region for filming.
