This flood is part of the ecological flow regime of the lower Ebro defined in the hydrological plan and has the objective of renaturalizing the flow regime, reducing the invasion of macrophytes and actively contributing to the study of sedimentary transit
The release of water took place on Tuesday, January 30th at 8:00 am with the opening of the floodgates of the Mequinenza, Ribarroja and Flix reservoirs.
The Ebro River Basin Authority (Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge) will carry out a controlled release of water downstream from the Mequinenza-Ribarroja-Flix reservoir system in Tarragona today, January 30.
This increase in the lower section of the Ebro is carried out to comply with the guarantee and maintenance of the ecological flows foreseen in the Ebro Hydrological Plan, and is framed within the actions of the “Strategy for the integral management of sediments in the Ebro hydrographic demarcation” foreseen in the aforementioned Plan.
