Andi, our new collaborator, explains its origin and how it is maintained today in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region.
It all began six centuries ago when King John II needed to reinforce the military. The monarch concluded that choosing one out of every five young men who had recently reached the age of majority would be enough to send them to the army, without neglecting their agricultural work.
