The works have been selected in the 5th 'The Water We Want' Competition of the UNESCO World Network of Water Museums, of which the Museums of Mequinenza are a part.
Around fifty works by students from the Santa Agatoclia Vocational Training Center and the Joaquín Torres Secondary School in Mequinenza have been submitted to the fifth edition of the "The Water We Want" competition, organized by UNESCO's World Network of Water Museums, of which Mequinenza is a member. The works, primarily photographs and drawings, explore Mequinenza's rich and varied water heritage from different perspectives.
From all the submissions received, five have been selected: two in the photography category, created by students from the Santa Agatoclia Vocational Training Center, Valentín Villalba (“The Charm of the Fog”) and Carolina Moncada (“Echoes of Ancient Waters”), and three in the drawing category, created by Aarón Esteve (“He Who Doses Does Not Sacrifice”), Khalid Chali (“Drops of Sweetness”), and Pau López (“He Who Doesn’t Fit Doesn’t Fly”) from the Joaquín Torres High School. All of these will be included in a digital exhibition, along with the other submissions collected from around the world, which is available at thewaterwewant.watermuseums.net
The aim of the competition, whose winners will be announced shortly, is to raise awareness among young people about and encourage their engagement with the water heritage around them, inspiring them to develop new ways of being more respectful and sustainable with nature. It seeks to encourage them to reflect on the relationship between water, society, and the environment through various artistic disciplines, inspired by concepts such as biodiversity, climate change, and the legacy of water. The competition aims to encourage them to connect with the aquatic heritage around them and to convey the need to promote a new water culture and a more sustainable use of this vital resource.
