Caritas Diocesana Barbastro Monzón has begun managing the accommodations donated by the Queen Sofia Foundation for seasonal workers.
On Tuesday, June 3rd, Cáritas Diocesana Barbastro Monzón began managing temporary accommodations for seasonal workers located on Clara Campoamor Street in Fraga. These facilities, donated to Cáritas by the Queen Sofía Foundation and visited last year by Her Majesty Queen Sofía, aim to provide dignified and temporary housing for workers who travel to the city during the fruit harvest. With a capacity for 40 people, the accommodations include bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen, restrooms, and a laundry room, guaranteeing basic food and hygiene conditions for the residents.
This joint initiative represents an important step in addressing the housing shortage affecting seasonal workers in the area during the peak agricultural season. The opening of these accommodations and their management by Cáritas Diocesana Barbastro Monzón is a positive sign demonstrating the commitment of local authorities, social organizations, and businesses to the well-being of seasonal workers. It is hoped that this project will serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges and contribute to ensuring decent living conditions for all workers.
The facilities will remain open until the end of the fruit harvest in September . Cáritas Diocesana Barbastro Monzón, true to its mission of serving the most vulnerable, will manage the accommodations in their entirety, including welcoming, supporting, and guiding the seasonal workers. The organization will also work closely with local agricultural businesses to facilitate the workers' integration into the workforce.
The implementation of this project has been made possible thanks to the close collaboration between Cáritas Diocesana Barbastro Monzón, the Fraga City Council, the Social Services of the Bajo/Baix Cinca Region, the Queen Sofia Foundation and Cáritas Española.
