The renovation of the Teachers' House aims to create a space with optimal living conditions to attract new residents. The building was not in poor structural condition, but several issues had to be addressed to make it a suitable home.
The first project involves replacing windows and doors to improve energy efficiency, as they are currently deteriorated due to age. With a budget of €30.000, the work is scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, with the expectation that this project “will help retain the population in the town,” according to Mayor José Santiago Gullarte.
On the other hand, the construction of a new weighbridge for agricultural vehicles, recently inaugurated, replaces the one that had been in use for over half a century, just as the weighing accuracy was beginning to fail. This new, fully digital system has been relocated to the outskirts of the town and represents an investment of €80.000.
Instead, the unused space it leaves on Joaquín Costa Avenue will be replaced with a new urban plaza, its central feature being the counterweight from the original weighbridge. The redevelopment of the area will also improve the surrounding environment, as the odors from the pig weighings were affecting nearby swimming pools and residents. Furthermore, the existing trees will be preserved, and a pergola with LED lights powered by solar panels will be installed.
