Members of the Fraga Traffic Detachment carried out a breathalyzer test on the driver of a truck who was driving erratically on the AP-2 motorway
On August 19, alerted by calls from several drivers to the 112 telephone number and referred to the Subsector Operational Center (COTA), a patrol from the Fraga Traffic Detachment (Huesca) located and intercepted on the AP-2 motorway, towards Barcelona, a truck that was driving in a “zigzag” , whose driver was using a mobile phone, managing to direct it off the motorway to a nearby rest area.
Observing obvious signs of alcohol consumption, the driver was given a breathalyzer test, which yielded a result of 0,74 mg/l in exhaled air, thus quintupling the maximum permitted rate for professional drivers.
The Huesca Road Safety Investigation Unit initiated the corresponding proceedings for an alleged traffic offense, which were then forwarded to the Fraga Duty Court. He was also reported for the observed violations of the General Traffic Regulations, and these reports were sent to the Huesca Provincial Traffic Headquarters.
The truck driver, a 52-year-old man, was summoned for a Fast Track Trial procedure to appear in court.
The legal blood alcohol limit for professional drivers is 0,15 mg/l in exhaled air. For levels exceeding 0,60 mg/l, Article 379 of the Penal Code establishes penalties of imprisonment for 3 to 6 months, a fine of 6 to 12 months, or community service for 31 to 90 days. In all cases, it entails the suspension of the driver's license for motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than one year and up to a maximum of four years.
