This new space, inaugurated today, Monday, June 24, is integrated into the Fraga Health Center
Asapme Huesca's role at this Day Center, which is part of the Fraga Health Center, will be to care for people with mental illness. To this end, the association will implement an individualized plan consisting of providing care to patients from the outset and developing a life plan that allows these individuals to feel active and integrated.
The inauguration of the Day Center, in which the Huesca Association for Mental Health (Asapme Huesca) is located , was attended by the mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún; the councilor for Health, Ángel Cabrera and the president of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, Javier Ferrer, among other authorities.
Coinciding with its thirtieth anniversary, the organization, which began its social work in Fraga in 2007, has taken a new step in its trajectory in the city with the opening of this new resource.
At the center, users can participate in workshops and community service and job placement programs . In addition, regarding job placement, Asapme Huesca has occupational workshops focused on the production of specific materials that are ultimately purchased by companies.
Mayor Ignacio Gramún stated that “the City Council will continue to support Asapme Huesca and back these kinds of initiatives that play a vital role in our society.” “Studies show that one in four people will experience a mental illness at some point in their lives, so it is essential that institutions stand by associations like Asapme Huesca ,” the mayor commented.
In this regard, Ángel Cabrera said that “ those of us in public office have to provide support , and it would be great if Asapme Huesca hadn't had to work so hard for the last 30 years to get where we are today.”
For her part, the president of Asapme Huesca, Nuria del Río, highlighted that the opening of the Day Center represents “an important step.” “ We have timed this milestone in health, in mental health, to coincide with our thirtieth anniversary since our founding in 1994,” Del Río celebrated.
Furthermore, the president of Asapme Huesca commented that the diagnosis of mental illnesses has increased during their 30 years of service. “The Covid pandemic was a significant peak in mental illness. The pandemic brought visibility to all these issues that, in some ways, still carry a stigma ,” Del Río remarked.
Closing of the exhibition 'Asapme Huesca: 30 years Painting the Future'
Following the inauguration of the Day Center, the mayor and members of Asapme Huesca traveled to the Montcada Palace to close the exhibition 'Asapme Huesca: 30 Years Painting the Future'. This exhibition, which has been on display throughout June , features various works created by participants in the painting workshops of the Huesca-based organization.
