Opinion piece by Alfonso Callejero, former Podemos councilor in the Fraga City Council
I'm not going to assume that those who read me remember who I am, or who I may have been, but I'll let each reader draw their own conclusions from the opinions I'll be putting down in this local newspaper that we have at the click of a button.
Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude in advance to the Diario del Bajo Cinca for trusting me to give my opinion on what is happening in our streets, in our town, in the surrounding area or in the region.
Because that's what a regional communication project is all about. It's about opening a window to observe how we live, what worries us, what we demand from our neighbors, mayors, or the regional president. And even to debate those seemingly distant decisions that end up affecting us, but always without losing that local touch. Because when it comes to talking about Ayuso, Pedro Sánchez, and what's happening inside the M30 ring road, we're already bombarded by enough media outlets.
“Neutrality doesn’t exist in journalism,” a good journalist friend of mine used to tell me, and still tells me. I won’t say who the professor was who reminded him of this in class, but I can reveal that he’s a well-known editor of a national newspaper, who even held a political position in a conservative government.
That's why I said I won't be neutral, but I will be sincere in my opinions. Rest assured, I will defend them enthusiastically, but with honesty and sound arguments, and I will never resort to underhanded tactics to fuel the noise and demagoguery that has taken hold in our local politics. Because it only seeks to use lies and confusion as its means to simply be right, ultimately creating a hazy atmosphere of confusion, polarization, and unnecessary tension in our streets.
With these introductory thoughts, this first opinion piece comes to an end. We will continue to reflect together on our problems, certainties, and uncertainties in future columns.
