It may seem like a carnival joke, but it's not.
The Fraga City Council has announced through its social media that Casimiro and Casimira, the Carnival figures, 'have suffered an attack' and, due to this incident, will not be displayed in the street as is tradition at this time of year.
As the council indicates, these typical characters of the Fraga carnival will be kept safe so that they arrive 'safe and sound on Saturday'.
Every year, the residents of l'Hort de l'Hospital bring the ninots (papier-mâché figures) out into the street. People can approach them, take photos, or leave them food, just like any other residents of Fraga. In fact, Mapi Aquilué, the Councilor for Festivals, spoke to us this week about them and other typical Carnival traditions in an interview that we will publish in the coming days.
Every year, Casimiro and Casimira always end up at the stake. They will be burned at the Burial of the Sardine, which will take place next Wednesday and will bring this year's celebrations to a close.
