Some families have accumulated more than €5.000 in claims, which will represent a major blow to household finances.
The AEGA Association has issued a statement denouncing the situation of harassment of farmers and ranchers, according to the document sent, which has been demonstrated in recent months and the sanctions issued to them.
According to the document, the AEGA association wants to "condemn and make known to the public the situation of harassment, persecution and economic suffocation suffered by the farmers and ranchers who demonstrated in Aragon, peacefully, spontaneously, freely and far from any acronym, in the agricultural and livestock demonstrations that took place throughout the territory since February.
A large number of farmers and ranchers have been indiscriminately fined two or three times a day, with some families accumulating fines totaling €5.000 . Some districts, especially those where agriculture and livestock farming have a greater socioeconomic impact, have hundreds of complaints. According to the association, if these fines are enforced, it would represent a severe blow to the already struggling economies of these Aragonese families dedicated to agriculture and rural life.
The statement continues, “AEGA wishes to reiterate that these protests have always been peaceful and carried out in agreement with the relevant authorities. If this is the method our administrations intend to use to silence the Aragonese agricultural sector, we want them to know that they will not succeed. The fight for the dignity of the profession we love and for providing quality food to the society around us will continue despite the numerous and substantial fines being levied against the agricultural and livestock sector. Our organization is appealing these fines through the appropriate legal channels.”
In closing, the association states, "We want society as a whole, and the citizens of Aragon in particular, to be aware of the mistreatment we are receiving. Our sole interest is to dignify our profession and fight to ensure that everyone has access to food , and that this food is of good quality ."
