The race, organized by the Mequinenza Cycling Club, will take place on July 5th and will maintain its traditional 112-kilometer route through the roads of Bajo/Baix Cinca and Cinca Medio.
The Mequinenza Cycling Club has opened registration for the 29th edition of a ride that has become a highlight of the local cycling calendar. The club continues to support a route that passes through several towns in the Bajo Cinca/Baix and Cinca Medio regions.
Registrations can be completed through the Mequinenza Cycling Club website until July 1st at 11:59 PM. In addition, all those who register online will be entered into a drawing for a ham. It will also be possible to register on the day of the event , between 7:15 and 7:50 AM, at the Mequinenza Municipal Sports Center, which will also have showers available for participants.
The entry fees are €12 for members of the cycling federation and €24 for non-members. For members of the Mequinenza Cycling Club, participation is free for federated members and costs €15 for non-members.
The ride will start on July 5th at 8:00 AM from the Plaza del Minero in Mequinenza. The route will pass through Torrente de Cinca, Fraga, Ballobar, Ontiñena, Alcolea de Cinca, Albalate de Cinca, Belver de Cinca, Osso de Cinca, and Zaidín, before returning to Mequinenza after completing approximately 112 kilometers.
Several aid stations will be set up throughout the day . The first will be located in Ontiñena, where the Town Hall will provide breakfast for participants. Later, in Zaidín, there will be another water station and a regrouping point thanks to the collaboration of the Zaidín Cycling Club, before tackling the final stretch of the ride.
The arrival in Mequinenza is expected around 1 p.m. As a grand finale to the day, cyclists who wish to do so can tackle the traditional climb to the Castle, a 1,5-kilometer ascent with an average gradient of approximately 12%. The finish line is next to Mequinenza Castle, recently added to the town's heritage, allowing participants to enjoy one of the town's main historical and tourist landmarks.
All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. The winner will receive a trophy and a ham, and prizes will also be awarded to the top three finishers. Additionally, trophies will be given to the youngest cyclist, the oldest cyclist, the club with the most participants, and the club from the furthest location, provided it has at least three participants.
With nearly three decades of history, the Villa de Mequinenza Cycling Tour has established itself as one of the oldest and most recognized sporting events in the region, bringing together cycling enthusiasts from different parts of Aragon and neighboring communities each year for a day that combines sport, camaraderie and promotion of the environment.
