Mequinenza has begun work to improve road and pedestrian access to the Magda Godia Senior Citizens' Residence and Day Center. The project, which represents an investment of €322.000, is being carried out on the street in front of the building and includes lighting, paving of sidewalks and roadway, water and sewage systems, and green spaces.
The construction company Construcciones Camón Gallego has begun work to improve the street leading to the Magda Godia Senior Citizens' Residence and Day Center, following the completion of the building, which will offer 78 residential places and 39 day center places. The Mequinenza City Council awarded the contract for the work, valued at €322.803,80, with a three-month completion deadline.
The works include improvements to the road and pedestrian access in front of the new building, enhancing pedestrian and vehicular mobility in the area. These improvements include lighting, paving of sidewalks and roadway, sewage and water supply networks, and green spaces. They are financed by the Investment Plan for Municipalities with Special Territorial Difficulties (PIMED) of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza (DPZ).
This is the first of two planned actions on the exterior of the Residence and Day Center of Mequinenza, in addition to the conditioning of the garden in the rear area which will be intended for the users and whose project is pending tender.
Furthermore, it remains to be seen whether the Bajo Cinca region will decide to grant the formal request made last year by the Mequinenza City Council to finance the building's equipment, valued at 670.000 euros, which, so far, after five months and three meetings, has not received any response except for the decision by the governing team not to use part of the two million euro allocation earmarked for 2023 for this purpose, nor to include any allocation in this regard in the 2024 budget.
This is a necessary step, along with the official handover of the building's construction work and the opening permits that must be granted by the Government of Aragon, to achieve the goal of putting the facility into service before the end of the year and receiving the first users as soon as possible.
